The Cotton Problem in the Textile Industry
The textile industry generates a large amount of waste, including cotton scraps from garment production such as jeans. This waste represents a significant environmental problem:
Environmental Impact:
It is estimated that millions of tons of textile waste are generated each year.
Textile waste that is not recycled ends up in landfills, where it can take centuries to decompose.
The decomposition of this waste releases methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.
Cotton production also has a significant environmental impact, as it requires intensive use of water, land, and chemicals.
PROPOSAL:
This project aims to reuse this fabric by creating a versatile material with it as the main element. In this way, we avoid a huge waste of material that has a harmful impact on the planet and reconvert it into functional elements for different sectors.
In this case, we have chosen to design handles for kitchen knives due to the pleasant touch and physical properties of the material, together with the attractive aesthetics generated by this pattern.
